He is just 10th class pass and villagers calls him ‘Doctor Babu’.

Sanjit Kumar Sarkar, popularly known as ‘Doctor babu’ in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, is just 10th class pass and prescribes medicines to villagers. Sanjit is Group D employee of the health centre.

The village is quite far from the district hospital and for some reasons no doctor has been recruited in this village so far so Sanjit takes care of medical needs of the village.
Sanjit claims that he has worked and observed doctors for 12 years and so now he is confident about simple diseases like diarrhea, fever etc. Everday he gets about 500 villagers to his clinic.

This doctor is not serving his patients alone but has got compounder and nurse also. His compounder Milan Sardar helps Sanjit as a compounder and Supta Sarkar works as a ‘nurse’ and handles gynecological cases.

The district hospital is 15 km away from this health centre so unless the patient’s condition is serious, most of the villagers prefer to visit doctor baby Sanjit Kumar for cure.
